Florida House consolidates education funding committees
Gov. Rick Scott has called for holding the Florida public education budget steady in the coming year, and to seek increases when possible.
Budget realities might make that a difficult goal to accomplish. Incoming House Speaker Will Weatherford has made plans to streamline the conversation.
On Friday, House Rules chairman Rob Schenck announced proposed rules for 2012-14 that would collapse the body's education appropriations committees from two -- higher education and pre-k-12 -- into one. Committee meetings are scheduled to begin the week of Dec. 3. Session starts on March 5.
