Florida state teacher of the year is national finalist
For the fourth straight year, Florida's teacher of the year is a finalist for the national award.
Alex Lopes, a Miami-Dade prekindergarten special education teacher, is among four teachers up for the 2013 National Teacher of the Year honor from the Council of Chief State School Officers. He follows in the footsteps of Megan Allen (2010, Hillsborough), Cheryl Conley (2011, Indian River) and Alvin Davis (2012, Broward).
"Florida has a strong tradition of quality, passionate educators and Mr. Lopes is no exception," Florida education commissioner Tony Bennett said in a release. "It is important to recognize those who go above and beyond in the teaching profession and serve our students so diligently. I congratulate Mr. Lopes on being a finalist for one of our nation’s highest teaching honors."
