Florida's longest tenured teacher dies
Lakeland High English teacher Hazel Haley, thought to be the longest serving teacher in the country, died Monday at her home at age 91, the Lakeland Ledger reports. She taught 69 years - the longest teaching term in Florida - before retiring in 2006.
The Ledger reports one of her favorite sayings as, "My goal is to keep enjoying life to the fullest, spend money and make sure the last check I write - for my funeral - bounces."
The Florida House honored Ms. Haley this morning with a moment of silence. So do we all.
