Former Broward teachers union leader arrested
Pat Santeramo, former head of the Broward Teachers Union, turned himself in Tuesday morning to face criminal charges that have not been immediately released, the Sun-Sentinel reports. Santeramo, who is married to United School Employees of Pasco president Lynne Webb, had been investigated for improper use of union funds.
From the Sun-Sentinel:
He declined comment. His lawyer handed out a written statement, which read in part "At no time has Pat acted dishonestly or in violation of his sacred trust to the teachers of Broward County."
"Unfortunately, in today's troubling political times the righteous cause of organized labor is under assault." The one-page statement also calls the charges "inaccurate."
