Former Hernando superintendent Sanders ailing

Bilde John Sanders, who left the Hernando school district in 2001, is in a coma after a car accident in which he suffered severe injuries, the Fort Myers News-Press reports.

Doctors said Sanders, who turns 73 on Saturday, might have had a stroke or heart attack before veering off the road in the March 23 incident, which occurred in Georgia.

Sanders spent six years in Hernando, and many thought he would remain until his retirement. He was well known in the community and on the golf courses until his departure.
