Former Hernando superintendent Sanders dies
John Sanders, who served six years leading Hernando schools, has died from injuries sustained in a March car accident in Georgia, according to the family's blog.
He took a turn for the worse on Tuesday, when doctors determined he could not fully expel carbon dioxide from his lungs and he would not recover, the family writes. He passed away Thursday afternoon.
Dr. Sanders spent six years as Hernando superintendent before taking the top job in Lee County schools in 2001. He was well liked in Hernando, and many people had expected he would remain here until his retirement.
He is survived by his wife, Camille, who also worked in Hernando and Lee schools as a counselor; five children and 15 grandchildren. The family has a guest book on its blog to leave comments.
