Former USF engineering dean dies
Michael Kovac, who served as dean of the University of South Florida's College of Engineering from 1986 to 1999, died Wednesday night, the university said Thursday. He was 70.
Kovac, most recently a professor emeritus of electrical engineering at USF, also served as interim provost in the late 90s under USF President Betty Castor. He was part of a group who first pushed the idea of creating a high-tech Interstate 4 corridor through central Florida.
"I miss you already, Mike," wrote John Wiencek, USF's current engineering college dean, in an e-mail to faculty and staff. "Rest in peace, knowing that you touched many with your loving and generous ways."
