Foundation: We will continue to advise on contract
Here's the message that Craig Sher, chairman of the Pinellas Education Foundation, emailed to other foundation folks yesterday in the wake of this story about the foundation's criticism of the contract between the school district and teachers union:
You may have read the article below in the Times today. We have discussed the implied concern that the school district attorney had with the Foundation’s right to discuss collective bargaining. We discussed this with legal counsel and our legal counsel has also discussed it with the school district’s attorney. Mr. Robinson understands that we have not been involved in any of the bargaining sessions and that we will continued to advocate for issues that we feel are important to the mission of the organization. Our advising of district staff and school board members on educational matters is allowed and does not violate any Florida statute or bargaining law.
