Gibbs, Dixie Hollins to appeal school grades
The Pinellas school district is planning to file school grade appeals on behalf of two high schools, Gibbs and Dixie Hollins.
According to the district, the state didn't consider several components in assigning the grades, most notably the one involving students' postsecondary readiness.
Gibbs, an F school last year, fell just shy of a B this year, so it wouldn't take too many appeal-granted points for it to reach the goal that Principal Kevin Gordon set for it when he took over in the summer of 2009. Dixie would rise from a D to a C if it wins its appeal, the district says.
