Gibbs High student named Presidential Scholar
Blaine Krauss, a student in the PCCA program at Gibbs High, has just been named a 2010 U.S. Presidential Scholar.
Only 141 students in the United States earn the prestigious honor each year, which is awarded to those who have demonstrated exceptional academic achievement and artistic excellence. Krauss is only one of four from Florida to earn the award this year and the only one from the Tampa Bay area.
Each scholar gets to invite his or her most challenging or inspiring teacher to travel to Washington, D.C., to receive a teaching award from the U.S. Department of Education and participate in recognition events. Blaine chose Keven Renken, who chairs the theater department at Gibbs.
