Give all the workers one badge for all Florida schools
We noted not long ago that not all Florida school districts treat their outside workers, such as construction contractors, exactly the same.
The state has rules on background checks and the like designed to keep certain people with criminal histories away from students. But some districts such as Pasco have adopted tougher rules.
State Rep. W. Keith Perry, R-Gainesville, wants to have a single standard for all. Perry, a contractor, has proposed a bill that would have the Florida Department of Education issue a badge for every contractor who meets the state background check requirements, to be uniformly accepted by all school districts.
Such a measure would eliminate the scenario where a worker can participate on a project at a Hernando school, but then not be eligible for work in a neighboring district. Good solution?
