Go slow on Florida's Race to the Top plan, teacher quality group cautions

Several groups have given Florida's Race to the Top proposal a top rating. As in, one of the best, most likely to succeed, that type of thing.

Not the National Council on Teacher Quality.

That group gives the green light to Delaware, Rhode Island and Tennessee as the top plans -- at least when it comes to the Great Teachers and Leaders section. Florida falls into its second group, the "proceed with caution" category, despite some of the state's strengths.

Says the group:

"Florida is supporting districts in the adoption of differential pay based on teacher performance evaluation results rather than years of experience or degrees earned. The question is, to what extent can districts pull this off?"

Many of you have said, No chance. Still, the effort proceeds. (See our posts on SB 6 below.) Keep watching this week. It promises to be a big one.
