Gov. Charlie Crist likes the new Race to the Top agreement
As Florida school districts received the state's new Race to the Top memorandum of understanding -- one crafted by a task force of teachers, parents, administrators and politicians -- Gov. Charlie Crist sent out praise for the handiwork.
Crist appointed the task force after vetoing SB 6, legislation intended to implement many of the RTTT proposals. He called for more input from teachers, who blasted SB 6 and also refused to participate in the state's first RTTT application.
"Florida’s fourth-place ranking in Phase 1 of Race to the Top taught us that stakeholder participation is essential to strengthening our schools and ensuring Florida’s success,” Crist said in a release. “Our students deserve the best learning environment and teachers possible, and input from the Working Group will help us have the best opportunity for success for Florida’s students.”
But if Charlie likes it, will it get the buy-in of Republican leaders who worked hard for SB 6 and who are stakeholders, too?
