Governor appoints three to Florida Board of Education
Gov. Rick Scott on Thursday reappointed John Padget of Key West to the Florida Board of Education and named two newcomers to the board. Dr. Ada G. Armas of Coral Gables replaces Roberto Martinez, also of Coral Gables, who was not eligible to serve another term. John Colon of University Park, a senior vice president with Wells Fargo Advisors, replaces Akshay Desai of St. Petersburg.
Desai's term was not due to expire until 2014.
Armas and Padget will serve terms that tun through 2016. Scott now has appointed a majority of members to the State Board, which recently hired Tony Bennett, Scott's choice for education commissioner. The appointments are subject to confirmation by the Florida Senate.
