Gradebook to Tweet from Tues. meeting on Janssen contract
The Gradebook's Rebecca Catalanello will be live tweeting Tuesday from the Pinellas County School Board's 10 a.m. public meeting on superintendent Julie Janssen's contract. To follow the news, check out tampabay.com, where the feed will be picked up, or sign in to follow @RCatTimes on Twitter.
To recap: Janssen, superintendent since September 2008, has offered to resign in exchange for a year's pay plus benefits, while school board members are wrestling with whether to agree to that (or another TBD) settlement plan, or terminate her.
Janssen's settlement offer would require at least a $200,000 salary payout, whether or not she gets a new job. By contrast, board members could stick to the terms of their employment contract with her and instead terminate her "without cause" or "with cause." The first option would also require the board pay her a year of salary and benefits, but would allow the board to reduce that payment by the amount of Janssen's new salary should she get a new job. The second option -- "with cause" -- would contractually allow the board to bid adieu without requiring any severance payout at all, but could lead to a lengthy legal battle, should Janssen choose to challenge the decision.
On top of that, board members are now faced with the news that Janssen and two members of her staff are the target of a new ethics complaint related to public records.
