Guns in school

Gunfree There's a teacher in Oregon. She has a permit to carry concealed weapon. She wants to do so, in her classroom. But her school district won't allow it.

So she's suing the district. (To read the Christian Science Monitor report, click here. For the Oregonian's version, click here.)

Now, we all know that we live in a world where school security is a high priority. Here in Florida, most schools funnel all visitors through a single entrance, where a nice but insistent secretary demands to see some ID before allowing an administrator to escort you onto the campus. Not close to the open-door policies we used to enjoy.

But should schools allow teachers to protect themselves with guns? Only Utah lets it happen right now, and that's just at colleges and universities. Keep your eyes on the Oregon case. It could change everything.
