Chocolatechipcookiesfront Teachers aren't getting raises. Schools are cutting back on supplies and materials. The Pasco School Board is talking about funding reductions all the time.

Land O'Lakes mom Vicki Paganus wants to help. Her idea: A districtwide fundraiser.

If each Pasco school sold 1,000 boxes of Otis Spunkmeyer cookie dough, she told the board today, the district could net nearly $600,000.

"Maybe we could become a model for other school districts," she said. "Maybe we could get people to compete a little bit and bring in some money for the schools."

Once upon a time, the idea of a bake sale to fund education was considered a joke. Today, no one was laughing.

"I really appreciate your enthusiasm," chairwoman Kathryn Starkey told Paganus before instructing superintendent Heather Fiorentino to have her staff look into the issue.
