Hearing witness: Any raises coming?
Pasco County substitute teacher Walter Jaworski was on the phone line to testify on behalf of bus driver Dolores Conley, whose job is in jeopardy over accusations that she texted and made calls on her cell phone while driving her bus.
He answered lawyers' questions as affably as possible. Then, as his testimony wore down, Jaworski suddenly asked, "Is this going on before the School Board."
Told that the full board was listening, Jaworski seized the opportunity.
"I just wanted to ask one question," he said. "Do substitutes get a raise?"
Everyone laughed. But they didn't answer, though that's clearly a "no."
The lawyers simply thanked him for his testimony and ended the conversation. The hearing continues. UPDATE: The School Board voted unanimously to dismiss Conley.
