Here's the draft of Pinellas' proposed school uniform policy
Pinellas elementary and middle schools will determine the color of their uniforms and belts will be required for boys pants with loops under a draft uniform policy that the school board will consider at a workshop tomorrow.
The board has been discussing uniforms since Superintendent Julie Janssen proposed them as part of her student assignment/achievement plan. Some parents have complained but opposition doesn't appear very strong.
Among other points in the draft:
* Schools can include school-sponsored T-shirts in their dress code that can be worn on school days or during special events designated by the principal.
* Principals and school advisory councils shall develop procedures and programs to help students who have trouble complying with the uniform policy because of financial hardships.
* Students entering the Pinellas school system for the first time during the school year will have a 30-day grace period before they have to comply.
