Hillsborough looks good on best high schools list

Four Hillsborough high schools are in the top 100 of the Washington Post's list of best high schools, which is formerly Newsweek magazine's list of best high schools.

Plant High came in at No. 38, King High at No. 52, Hillsborough High at No. 56 and Robinson High at No. 81, according to the list released today. The list is based on a controversial formula devised by Washington Post education columnist Jay Mathews.

It puts a premium on the number of students taking Advanced Placement and International Baccaulaureate classes, and does not consider whether they passed the AP and IB tests. (His explanation here.)

Among Pinellas schools, Palm Harbor University High ranked highest, at No. 161. St. Petersburg High came in at No. 204, Lakewood at No. 260 and East Lake at No. 381.
