Hillsborough, Pinellas schools to open Tuesday
Hillsborough and Pinellas school students will return to classes on Tuesday after a day off for what turned out to be a dud of a tropical storm warning.
The exception will be Rampello Downtown Partnership School in downtown Tampa, which is closed all week due to the GOP convention.
Hillsborough district offices downtown will remain closed because of the convention, as well. But administrators will continue to work at other district sites. Telephone calls will be forwarded to the locations at which the employees are working.
Hillsborough spokeswoman Linda Cobbe told the Gradebook that the district did not err in calling off Monday classes by early Sunday.
"We were erring on the side of caution. We had four of our schools opened up as shelters," Cobbe said. "If people consider it a mistake, we would rather make a mistake where kids are safe."
Attention now turns north, where school districts are still bracing for Isaac. The Taylor district just announced on its Facebook site that it will close Tuesday because of the rain and wind threats.
More details as they become available.
