Hillsborough superintendent offers last-minute calendar changes
TAMPA -- With less than two hours until today's Hillsborough County School Board meeting, superintendent MaryEllen Elia this afternoon threw out an olive branch in the latest chapter of the district's school calendar wars.
She advised the board to drop two of the early-release days that have proven so controversial with some parents, and switch the last day of school back to a Friday. That would partially undo last week's error, in which board members say they inadvertently switched the last day to a Monday.
So, does this mean the district might finalize a calendar for the school year that began two weeks ago? Stay tuned; it just might happen at today's meeting.
In case you missed it, the School Board voted unanimously to drop two early-release days from the calendar and switch the last day of school back to Friday, June 10, rather than the following Monday. Here's the full story.
What do you think? Are these changes an improvement?
