Homeschool parents rally behind Florida Virtual

Florida virtual school It didn't take this Tampa-based discussion group for home schoolers long to catch on to the Florida Senate's attempt to scale back course offerings through Florida Virtual School.

As part of its education budget proposal, the Senate would limit the online school to the state's core high school curriculum.

"The cuts are more drastic than other proposed cuts to other Florida school districts," blogger Teresa Willingham writes. "These cuts would eliminate 7th period course offerings and online elective courses, and they would limit student choice of online courses to the core academic courses."

She urges parents and students to fight the recommendation by contacting lawmakers and telling their individual stories:

"Florida legislature will listen to you! Pick up the phone right now, and call your local legislators and the members of the four education committees. Tell Florida legislators to not single-out FLVS when making budget reductions."
