Hope all those Pasco kids feel better by Tuesday
Today is Labor Day, and it's looking like a needed day off for Pasco County schoolchildren who appear to have taken ill at the end of last week.
Friday's attendance sank to 62,001 — off 1,563 from just four days earlier. While the numbers didn't dip everywhere, several schools had fairly hefty declines. Pasco High, for example, was down 86 students, Sunlake High dropped by 88, and Wiregrass Ranch High by 102. Rushe Middle and Seven Springs Middle also saw steep drop-offs.
"We've been told by schools all day (Friday) that there are a significant number of absences due to sickness," planning director Chris Williams said in an e-mail.
He expected the district to remain on course for overall growth of about 300 students from 2008-09. The schools will take another official count in two weeks.
