How should Florida measure student achievement for teacher evaluations
The State Board of Education passed rules on this topic once before, but deleted those after a hearing officer found that the state had not followed proper procedures in creating and adopting them. Now they're at it again, aiming to put into operation the Legislature's requirement for value-added measures and related ways to measure learning growth.
The state will accept comments on the drafts through February and then make revisions, with the goal to bring the proposals back to the State Board before the end of the school year.
There are complicated mathematical formulas in there you'll want to check out. Lawmakers have said bills should be forthcoming to deal with possible changes to teacher evaluations. Stay tuned.
