'I thank Azalea Middle School'
Yesterday’s pepper-spray incident at Azalea Middle in St. Petersburg didn’t help the school’s reputation. But for what it’s worth, and by coincidence, an Azalea eighth-grader recently sent The Gradebook a YouTube video that offers a different perspective.
The video wasn’t for a class assignment. Chance Fridriksson said he just wanted to tell people at Azalea how grateful he was for making him a better person.
“Thank you for helping me through my rough times last year,” he tells the school resource officer. “Thank you … for having the respect you had toward me when sometimes I didn’t deserve it,” he tells an assistant principal.
We asked Chance and his mother if it was okay if we shared his video with readers, and they both agreed it was.
