If you missed the superintendent meet-and-greet...

As we reported Monday, Pinellas County's superintendent-select Mike Grego received a warm welcome Monday during a community meet-and-greet at the district headquarters in Largo. More than 100 people showed up, including parents, teachers, principals, community members and other district employees. It was pretty much standing room only.

Grego talked about the importance of trust and building a culture where it's ok to disagree. He said he'd have an open-door policy with employees and the community. He also talked about his passion for early childhood education and vocational education.

Not everyone could make it to Monday's event - many high school teachers, for instance, had open houses at the same time - but the school district has posted a video of the event here. The district also has the event on its blog.

Grego's employment isn't official yet. Board members are expected to vote tonight to start contract negotiations, with the contract coming back for a vote later this month. Superintendent John Stewart has been mum so far about an exit date, but has said he's willing to step down whenever it's convenient for the school board.
