Janet Clark: I am running again, probably
"I'm not ready to make an announcement. But at this time, I intend to (run again)," Clark told The Gradebook. "That might not mean things won't change in the future. But today, on June 7, I am planning to run again."
Clark, elected in 2004 and re-elected in 2008, holds one of three board seats up for grabs next year.
The other two are held by Carol Cook and Robin Wikle. Qualifying isn't until next spring.
So far, as far as we know, Clark's seat has attracted interest from one potential challenger.
"When I look at the makeup of the board, I think there needs to be some independence on that board and sometimes I don't feel like there is a whole lot of that," Clark said. "I don't know who listens to who on the board but there are people on the board who vote opposite the way I think we should be voting. I'm afraid if I'm not on the board, I'll be replaced by another person who will vote in the majority. And that to me is bothersome."
Clark said she doesn't mind occasionally being on the losing end of 6-1 and 5-2 votes. "The public has to know there is another school of thought sometimes," she said. "That there are people who disagree with how things are going."
