Janssen launches communications 'audit'

Pinellas Superintendent Julie Janssen is hiring the PR consultant Hill & Knowlton to find better ways for the district to communicate both internally and externally. "I ask for your support as we evaluate our communications needs, determine what is working and what is not, and prepare for the next iteration of a cutting-edge communication program for Pinellas County Schools," she wrote in an email to staff Wednesday afternoon.

Janssen mentioned the audit to school board members at the end of last week's two-day retreat. "How are we going to get better if we don't know what we're doing wrong?" she said then. The Gradebook asked for additional information late Friday afternoon. The district provided it Wednesday afternoon, after Janssen's email went out.

Janssen said the money to hire Hill & Knowlton - which the district hired for the TIF grant - will come out of her budget. She said it will cost $20,000 to $24,000. She noted that improving communications is part of her improvement plan.

Janssen's email and Hill & Knowlton's scope of of work are attached below.
