Jeb Bush endorses Glenton Gilzean in Pinellas race

Former Gov. Jeb Bush has endorsed Glenton Gilzean for the Pinellas County School Board District 7 seat, Gilzean's campaign announced today.

In a press release, Bush says:

"Glen Gilzean is a champion for students. Glen has the courage and experience to tackle the complex issues facing Pinellas County schools.
His continued leadership on the Pinellas County School Board will ensure all students receive a world class education."

Not everyone would welcome an endorsement by Bush right now, given the statewide tussle over standardized testing. The Bush era brought Florida most of the FCAT-heavy policies that teachers and school boards are protesting right now. Gilzean was the lone Pinellas board member to vote against the anti-testing resolution. See why here.

But Bush also isn't known for endorsing a lot of candidates and, for some, he is the standard bearer for school choice. He also has become well known nationwide as an education advocate. See a Reuters story about a possible presidential run for Bush in 2016 here.

Gilzean's response to the endorsement was:

"I am truly humbled to receive the support of Governor Jeb Bush, a proven leader, especially in the area of education reform. I’m honored
and thankful for his support."
