Jobs now available in Pasco County schools
After freezing all its positions while placing laid off teachers, the Pasco County school district has now advertised several teaching jobs on its website.
You'll see postings for Spanish, special education, language arts, science -- pretty much everything except art and physical education.
That's because the district has found spots for all but six of the annual contract teachers it laid off in the spring, and those still looking are in those specials. Otherwise, schools are now looking to fill slots opened by retirements and resignations since the layoffs occurred as part of the district's effort to cut $54 million in spending.
Gulf Trace Elementary School principal Hope Schooler told the Gradebook that she was already being inundated with applications for two classroom teacher positions she recently advertised. She expected to have her choice of top educators as hundreds of teachers from around the state look for new employment after layoffs here and elsewhere.
