Judge denies FEA request on pensions

Late Thursday Judge Jackie Fulford rejected the Florida Education Association's request to issue an injunction that would have stopped school districts and other state employers from withholding 3 percent of their pay for pensions. The injunction hearing was held earlier in the day, just hours before the start of the new fiscal year.

Fulford said the plaintiffs have adequate remedy in law, and that a loss of income during a lawsuit does not amount to irreparable harm. See the full order here.

"This is will not stop us from fighting to make Governor Rick Scott and legislative leaders live up to the promises made to our teachers, law-enforcemernt officers, firefighters and other employees," FEA President Andy Ford said in a release. "They created a budget deficit by giving tax breaks to corporate special interests and then tried to solve their problem on the backs of Florida's working families.”

The trial is set for Oct. 26.
