Kindergarteners could soon access Florida's McKay Scholarships
The legislation, which now heads to the Senate, would allow incoming kindergarteners access to the scholarships, which pay some or all tuition to private schools that can better meet the needs of students with disabilities.
It also grants the education commissioner extended powers to end a school's participation in the program if it does not meet accepted conditions.
This is the second voucher program that the Legislature has moved to expand this year. Both houses have sent Gov. Charlie Crist a bill that would broaden participation in the corporate tax credit scholarship program for low-income students. He has until Thursday to sign or veto that measure.
UPDATE: The governor has announced a signing ceremony for the corporate tax credit scholarship bill at noon Thursday.
