Legal alcohol in school? Maybe, in Oregon

But what if students in high-end cooking classes need a splash of vino, or a dash of brandy, to add that extra zing to their fabulous foods?

Oregon lawmakers are poised to let that happen, after receiving pleas from a culinary arts instructor whose students just missed out on national competition scholarships because their recipes lacked what alcohol could have provided.

Oregon House Bill 2750 would give school boards the option of allowing culinary arts courses to use booze to cook, so long as it's securely stored and supervised. Parents also would have to consent.

Not surprisingly, the idea hasn't won everyone over, the Statesman-Journal reports.

"I know that culinary schools are important, but there's no way you can convince me that students will not get in to use these products for other experimentation," Rep. Betty Komp told the paper.

At least that's one idea to change education that hasn't surfaced in Florida yet.
