imgres.jpegWhile the Hernando School Board has only talked about adding security measures to its meetings, the Marion school district is taking no chances in the wake of a December fatal shooting at a Bay County board meeting.

Marion superintendent Jim Yancey announced Thursday that anyone who wants to attend that district's public board meetings must first be checked with a handheld metal detector, the Ocala Star-Banner reports. 

Opinions we've heard on such moves have run the gamut, from support for adding safety measures to disdain for creating a police state. What's your view?
