Make teacher test data public, US Education Secretary Duncan says
Here's the latest twist in the debate over the recent LA Times story where reporters rated teacher effectiveness based on student test scores.
It's a new LA Times story quoting US Education Secretary Arne Duncan in full support of the paper's public airing of teacher performance data.
"What's there to hide? Duncan said to the paper. "In education, we've been scared to talk about success."
Let's keep the discussion rolling. Should districts be using and releasing "value added" evaluations of their teachers? Or is this move, in the words of the LA teachers union, "dangerous" and "irresponsible"?
