McDevitt, former TECO counsel, named to lead BOG



Retired TECO Energy chief legal counsel Sheila McDevitt will take the helm of the Board of Governors that oversees public universities, after having served as second-in-command for two years.

Mcdevitt The 17-member Board this afternoon elected McDevitt to be its chairwoman, replacing Ocala realtor Carolyn Roberts, whose term is expiring.

"I look forward to working with my fellow board members and with members of the university boards of trustees as well as with the Legislature, the governor and the business community to make our institutions stronger,” McDevitt said.

McDevitt will officially take the post Aug. 1, at which time Board member Ava Parker of Jacksonville will take McDevitt's vice chair post.

McDevitt has served on the Board since 2003. A longtime attorney in Tampa Bay, the FSU law school graduate also served in various capacities for the Florida and Georgia legislatures from 1967 to 1979.
