Mims endorses Gorham for Hillsborough School Board
That's the job that Mims had wanted, before his candidacy ended in the summer primary. Gorham advanced to a run-off in the general election against incumbent Carol Kurdell.
In an e-mail, Mims encouraged supporters to vote for Gorham because he will bring change to an office that Kurdell has held for 16 years. He noted that Gorham will challenge the administration. Mims felt that Gorham is the best candidate to address the challenges facing minority youth in Hillsborough's inner-city schools, whose advancement has been a longtime passion for Mims. How significant is the endorsement? Only time will tell. In general, Gorham has received the bulk of the prominent endorsements. He's backed by the district's two major unions -- both teachers and blue collar employees. In the newspaper wars, the Tampa Tribune favors Gorham, and the Times prefers Kurdell.
