Money for education
Gov. Charlie Crist has proposed his 2007-08 budget, and though he's calling for an overall decrease, there's more money for education -- $1.3-billion, or 4 percent, more. There's a bit more for prekindergarten, $500 more per student in K-12, and a hefty increase for the construction and operation of new schools to work toward compliance with the class-size reduction amendment. No apparent public battle to do away with the amendment from this governor. Now we just have to wait and see how the Legislature reacts.
