More scientific support for science standards
Put the American Institute for Biological Sciences and the Council of the Florida Academy of Sciences down in the yes column. The institute sent this letter to the state Board of Education last week, saying it supports the proposed new science standards. "There is no justification for singling out evolution for special skepticism or critical analysis," the letter says. "Its strength as a scientific theory matches that of the theory of gravitation, atomic theory, and the germ theory."
The Florida council passed a resolution of support last month, saying "the theory of evolution is recognized as the central unifying concept in biology, and has led to major advances in agriculture, medicine, environmental sciences and all other fields of the life sciences."
