National group: Change pension system for Florida teachers
Gov. Rick Scott isn't the only one who thinks Florida needs to revamp its pension system for public employees, including teachers. In a series of state reports released this morning, the National Council on Teacher Quality said state pension systems should be overhauled. The Florida report listed eight recommendations for change, including "reasonable district and teacher contibution rates."
The NCTQ, which includes former Florida education commissioner John Winn on its board of directors, went into more detail on its recommendations in this 2009 report. (Both reports include recommendations on lots of things - tenure, testing requirements, etc. The pension suggestions in the older report begin on page 107.)
