New candidate enters race to replace Cathi Martin on Pasco School Board
One-time River Ridge High teacher Cynthia Armstrong, now a real estate agent, has put her name into contention for Pasco County School Board District 3. She is the second candidate to file paperwork to take the seat held for the past 12 years by retiring board member Cathi Martin.
The other candidate so far is Sallie Skipper, a New Port Richey lawyer with ties to superintendent Heather Fiorentino.
Armstrong, who has lived in the county for 30 years, said she believes she has the right experience in education, business and community service to help the district as it copes with critical curriculum and budget issues. She also served one term on the elected Pasco Couny Mosquito Control board.
"The one thing we need to protect the most is students' actual experiences in the classroom," Armstrong said. "Because obviously, budget cuts will have to be made."
