New principal coming to Lakewood High ...

Vicari ... and it's Bob Vicari, the principal at Osceola Middle for the past eight years. Lakewood principal Dennis Duda has announced he is retiring, and Pinellas associate superintendent Barbara Thornton told Lakewood staff members late last week that Vicari is replacing him. Thornton said she'll introduce him at a faculty meeting Wednesday.

Vicari "has a successful record of raising student achievement," she wrote in an e-mail to staffers. "In addition, Mr. Vicari has a strong interest in technology, and involved Osceola Middle School in an innovative technology program."

Lakewood has been rated a D school by the state for the past five years, which is one reason there will be a high level of state oversight of the school next year. Osceola Middle has been an A school eight years in a row.
