New principals named for two Pasco schools
"Gary has developed a good rapport with the students, staff and community there," assistant superintendent Jim Davis told the Gradebook. "We feel confident he can continue to move that school."
Sunlake needed a new leader after Angie Stone left to run the district's newest high school, Fivay, which opens in Hudson in the fall. Superintendent Heather Fiorentino put Walthall in the driver's seat temporarily while assessing a variety of other leadership positions throughout the county.
One of those was the principal's job at Moore-Mickens Education Center, where longtime leader Steve Cox is retiring this fall.
After lengthy discussions, Fiorentino and her team decided to place Rick Saylor, principal of the Irvin Education Center, in charge of Moore-Mickens. He'll take over on Oct. 1, Davis said, with the Irvin job going to advertisement after the School Board takes official action on post nominations July 6.
Davis acknowledged that rumors have been flying about possible wholesale moves of high school assistant principals. He said that many positions are open, and the principals have talked with the superintendent's staff about staffing. But the district has "no plans," he added, "to make any significant moves."
Still in the hopper: Principals for Chasco Elementary and Hudson Middle. We'll let you know when we hear more.
