No makeup needed for Pasco
While leaders in other Florida school districts are wringing their hands over the prospect of forcing kids to make up hurricane days on Veterans Day, Pasco County's top brass is suggesting that their students won't have to attend school any extra days at all because of Tropical Storm Fay.
Superintendent Heather Fiorentino has told the Pasco School Board that the district already has met the statutory time line for net hours of education -- 900 in fourth through 12th grade, 720 for kindergarten through third grade -- without any added classroom time.
Any teachers who took leaves of absence on Aug. 19 would get the hours back under the district plan, which is scheduled to get the board's blessing Tuesday.
