No word from Cathi Martin
Ever since three lawmakers called for her removal, Pasco County School Board member Cathi Martin has gone silent.
She hasn't communicated with the lawmakers, the school district or other board members. She hasn't returned phone calls from reporters, and neither has her husband.
Will Martin will show up for the board's Monday meeting? Who knows? District leaders sure hope so, though, because the board is scheduled to set a new date for the teacher discipline hearing that she missed a week ago -- the absence that prompted the push for her ouster.
Amid all this, a spokesman for Gov. Crist told the Gradebook that the governor's legal team is reviewing the lawmakers' request and the options available. He could not give a definite time frame for a decision, but said, "In other cases where we've received letters asking for an official to be removed, it's taken two to four weeks."
State Rep. Will Weatherford, one of the three seeking to have Martin removed, said he would abide by whatever the governor decides. But for the community, Weatherford said, he hopes for Martin's dismissal.
"If there ever was a time you need your School Board members to be present and active, it's now," Weatherford said.
