Education news and notes from Tampa Bay and Florida

Not that this was in doubt

Elementary kids rejoice. Gov. Charlie Crist has made it a law that you get to play more each day. Of course, it's really P.E. class that elementary schools will have to offer 30 minutes daily. But according to kids the Times interviewed, that's just fine with them. In fact, they say 30 minutes isn't enough.

The governor, who exercises each morning himself, thinks it's a good start toward getting kids up off the couch and active. "With childhood obesity on the rise, it is critical that we find ways to help children adopt healthy habits,"  Crist said at today's signing ceremony in Davie, where the Miami Dolphins train. Just one thing remains. Schools have to figure out how to fit the requirement into their already packed schedules. Watch to see what falls by the wayside.
