Obama and Jeb, strange bedfellows
Despite what some would have you believe, political lines blur all the time when it comes to education policy. President Obama's speech yesterday is more proof.
Obama made it clear (again) that he strongly backs charter schools and merit pay for teachers, and even offered a few strong lines about getting rid of bad teachers:
"If a teacher is given a chance or two chances or three chances but still does not improve, there's no excuse for that person to continue teaching. I reject a system that rewards failure and protects a person from its consequences."
Jeb Bush –- who recently visited with Education Secretary Arne Duncan -- has been pushing all of those things too, one of his foundations was quick to point out.
