Is Obama indoctrinating kids? Crist doesn't know
Was it overboard for critics of President Obama’s back-to-school speech, set for tomorrow, to characterize it as furthering a “socialist agenda”? Gov. Charlie Crist, whose administration has benefited greatly from Obama’s stimulus money, isn’t sure.
“I don’t know because I don’t know what the president was intending to say,” Crist told reporters who asked if the criticism went overboard. “Without that I can’t pass judgment.”
Crist also stuck by Republican Party of Florida Chair Jim Greer, who led the charge nationally in sliming Obama’s speech (and who earned a Pants on Fire rating from the St. Petersburg Times’ Politifact site). “I think his concern was he wanted to make sure the schools were used for an appropriate purpose. As I understand it, the White House has listened.”
Does it matter that Crist is letting Greer go off, at a time when Florida is working hard to get a piece of the Obama administration’s Race to the Top money? Good thing U.S. Education Secretary Arne Duncan calls the criticism “just silly."
