Once again, Ammons looks to NCCU for hire

FAMU president James Ammons' administrative team already includes several people who followed him from FAMU to North Carolina Central University when he left the FAMU provost's post several years ago to become NCCU president several years ago, only to return with him to FAMU this past summer.

Now Ammons is turning to NCCU for a new athletic director. FAMU trustees just approved a three-year, $175,000-a-year contract for former NCCU athletic director William “Bill” Hayes to take over the athletic director post at FAMU. Hayes starts Jan. 2, replacing Nelson Townsend.

Ammons booted Townsend from the AD spot last month, along with football coach Rubin Carter. They worked under former interim FAMU president Castell Bryant. Ammons is expected to name a new coach soon.
